General Information

• Susan Furtney, the AVHS Varsity Coach is a member of the USPTA and has had many years of experience teaching tennis at private clubs, schools, colleges and in community programs.
• The overall objective is to give as many people as possible an opportunity to learn to play the great game of tennis to the best of their ability.
• We want each player to reach their goals and become as good a tennis player as they desire.
• There are several programs offered to all junior players during the six months we have tennis courts at the Arena.
• New in 2010 the junior program at the Arena will be administered by Stu MacGibbon who is the Tennis Commissioner of the VAA. The teaching staff will be Susan Furtney, Chris Steadman, Melissa Osterhaus and MacKenzie Rayman.
• MORNING CLASSES -
  We will offer 8 one week sessions in 2010. The classes will meet for an hour Monday through Thursday at a cost to be determined. Starting on the following Mondays 6/14, 6/21, 7/5, 7/12, 7/19, 7/26, 8/2 and 8/9/2010.
  2009/10 Grades - Pre-K and K (4 Minimum age)at 9am
  1st and 2nd Grade 9am
  3rd and 4th Grade 10am
  5th and 6th Grade 11am
  7th through 9th Noon

• Our Quickstart program format will be used for students aged 8 and under.Click for information on the Quickstart format. We will have some Quickstart tournaments during the summer.
  Advantages of Quickstart over using a regular sized court.
  
• EVENING CLASSES
  Our program will run very much like the 2009 Summer season. Each age group will meet twice a week for six weeks, no classes July 4th week as we have special events at the Arena. We will have a two hour tournament for each age group on the final Saturday of the season.
  Grades are for the 2009/10 school year.
  Pre K and K (4 is the Minimum age) Tuesday and Thursday 5 pm to 6pm<
  1st and 2nd Grade Tuesday and Thursday 6pm to 7pm
  3rd and 4th Grade Tuesday and Thursday 5pm to 6pm
  5th and 6th Grade Tuesday and Thursday 7pm to 8:30pm
  7th through 9th Grade Monday and Wednesday 5:30pm to 7 pm
  Costs to be determined.
  
• The VAA will also run the 14 and Under and 18 and Under traveling USTA Team Tennis Team program. See our page on the summer competitive teams.
• We plan to hold tournaments at the weekends for all levels and ages.
